The aim for today is to see some nature. We drive into the Yosemite Valley. The first 20 minutes is nice but not spectacular. But then we drive through a tunnel and come out to beautiful scenery. We see El Capitan close by and Half Dome's North face in the distance. We drive beneath tall cliffs and beautiful waterfalls. It's stunning. It's also very hot, which is a good excuse for not going on a hike (but Joes' toes itch). We have a picnic near the river Merced.
We take the loop: the road is one way and return a couple of hours later back in our hotel. Joes, never the quickest, finally catches fully up on the virus that has been bothering Freya and Nicole over the last few days. He disappears into this bed with a high fever and a lot of paracetamol.
